The Trail Blazers Foundation
, in partnership with Wells Fargo
, concluded their "Take It To The Court for Education" program by awarding $100,000 in grants to 20 schools from across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Recipients were chosen from an open application process to request funding support for academic, art, athletic or community programs.
The application process began with the start of the Trail Blazers 2015-16 season, with 328 applications submitted from 140 zip codes around the region. It culminated today with a presentation ceremony at Moda Center featuring Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum
, along with Wells Fargo Regional President Tracy Curtis
and members of the Trail Blazers Foundation Board and grant selection committee. Dollar amounts ranged up to $10,000, based on the scope and costs associated with the project or program seeking funds.
ACES Parents Club President, Tycie Ritchey
, applied for the grant and was awarded money to go towards the "SOAR into READING" program. ACES students have a goal of reading 20 minutes per day while outside of school - students who achieve this goal are given a certificate to select a new book from a wide range of titles. Each month students have the opportunity to select a new book.
